The Quartz app was only a few days old when it sent a push alert that gave us all goosebumps: Author Harper Lee has died at the age of 89. \u201cShoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit \u2018em, but remember it\u2019s a sin to kill a mockingbird.\u201d Plenty of apps sent push notifications announcing Lee\u2019s death, but Quartz\u2019s did more than convey the news. It struck an emotional chord; it eulogized. Lock screens are growing as an exciting medium for short-form storytelling.
