Come visit www.publicnewsservice.org<\/a> and click the \u201cEnhanced Content for Media Outlets\u201d button.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n As journalists learning to make payroll, it\u2019s possible there are some<\/strong> mistakes we\u00a0haven\u2019t made en route to reaching 50 million people per week, but there\u2019s time. We\u00a0may fall down a few more times as we imagine surviving the next recession — but we’ve made it through\u00a0three\u00a0so far and we’re still standing!<\/p>\n You may or may not be familiar with Public News Service’s<\/a> 36 state-based outlets, such as the California News Services, New York\u00a0News Connection, Northern Rockies News Service, Texas News Service, etc.<\/p>\n Though we\u2019ve supported scores of journalists across the country in the 20 years\u00a0since we launched, we may not be well known for a few reasons. Despite the \u201cselfie\u201d\u00a0world we live in, self-promotion doesn\u2019t come easy for many journalists. We also haven\u2019t\u00a0had the resources to market our own brand. We may fall down a few more times, but we\u2019ve made it through three recessions so far.<\/p>\n We\u2019ve developed about five different funding streams —\u00a0all of which have pitfalls — and each tax\u00a0structure comes with different \u201cdelights\u201d (because why should Oprah have all the\u00a0naming fun). We\u2019ve learned that media literacy is a constant in almost all\u00a0funding conversations, that ethical dilemmas are ever-present, and the lure of the\u00a0next shiny thing can be our biggest downfall.<\/p>\n Still, and, truly, \u201cIt is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care\u00a0who gets the credit,\u201d as\u00a0President Harry Truman said.<\/p>\n Collaborators, welcome. Researchers, let\u2019s chat. We play well with others. The\u00a0thousands of newsrooms who find our public interest content useful (about 8,000 at\u00a0last count) typically don\u2019t have the resources to go after these stories themselves,\u00a0but we make it easier —\u00a0and possible even —\u00a0for many journalists to include voices\u00a0and perspectives that make for more inclusive and richer public conversations.<\/p>\n We\u2019re interested in highlighting what brings value to our national debate, and\u00a0supports democracy. This is no time to tolerate the narrative that people of good\u00a0will aren’t capable of solving\u00a0monstrous challenges.<\/p>\n This is your invitation to use our dedicated news distribution platform to\u00a0access thousands of stories, audio, broadcast scripts and images, without cost.<\/strong><\/p>\n You\u2019re welcome to edit and use any of our content as you see fit.
